{"id":1079,"date":"2012-05-16T12:55:39","date_gmt":"2012-05-16T17:55:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iowappa.com\/?p=1079"},"modified":"2012-05-16T12:55:40","modified_gmt":"2012-05-16T17:55:40","slug":"anslingers-allies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iowappa.com\/?p=1079","title":{"rendered":"Anslinger&#8217;s Allies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/iowappa.com\/?attachment_id=111\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-111\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-111\" title=\"webeagle\" src=\"https:\/\/iowappa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/webeagle1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/iowappa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/webeagle1-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/iowappa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/webeagle1.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>Shortly after being elected, President Obama instructed the Department of Justice to stop going after people who were using marijuana for medicinal purposes.\u00a0 That directive didn\u2019t last very long.\u00a0 Today, the Drug Enforcement Agency is busier than ever hauling in otherwise innocent people for doing something that their state law allows \u2013 relieving their pain with the aid of a natural herb.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/rohrabacher.house.gov\/\">Representative Dana Rohrabacher<\/a> [R \u2013 CA46] introduced an <a href=\"http:\/\/thomas.loc.gov\/cgi-bin\/bdquery\/D?d112:51:.\/temp\/%7EbdaH4F::%7C\/home\/LegislativeData.php%7C\">amendment<\/a> to <a href=\"http:\/\/thomas.loc.gov\/cgi-bin\/bdquery\/z?d112:HR05326:%7C\/home\/LegislativeData.php%7C\">H.R. 5326<\/a>, the Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, which would \u201cprohibit the use of funds to be used with respect to preventing the States of Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington from implementing their own State laws that authorize the use, distribution, possession, or cultivation of medical marijuana.\u201d\u00a0 Rep. Rohrabacher was joined in sponsoring the amendment with <a href=\"http:\/\/hinchey.house.gov\/\">Rep. Maurice Hinchey<\/a> [D \u2013 NY22], <a href=\"http:\/\/mcclintock.house.gov\/\">Rep. Tom McClintock<\/a> [R \u2013 CA4], and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.farr.house.gov\/\">Rep. Sam Farr<\/a> [D \u2013 CA17].\u00a0 Urban, rural, Republican and Democrat.<\/p>\n<p>The amendment had nonpartisan and diverse flavor.\u00a0 It failed to pass 163 &#8211; 262 (<a href=\"http:\/\/clerk.house.gov\/evs\/2012\/roll238.xml\">Roll no. 238<\/a>).\u00a0 The only member of the Iowa delegation to vote in favor of the amendment was <a href=\"http:\/\/loebsack.house.gov\/\">Rep. Dave Loebsack<\/a> [D \u2013 IA2].\u00a0 Reps. <a href=\"http:\/\/braley.house.gov\/\">Bruce Braley<\/a> [D \u2013 IA1], <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tomlatham.house.gov\/\">Tom Latham<\/a> [R \u2013 IA4], <a href=\"http:\/\/boswell.house.gov\/\">Leonard Boswell<\/a> [D \u2013 IA3], and <a href=\"http:\/\/steveking.house.gov\/\">Steve King<\/a> [R \u2013 IA5] voted against the amendment.<\/p>\n<p>Sixteen states and the District of Columbia have approved marijuana for medicinal purposes.\u00a0 Two other states have legislation pending before their governors (New Hampshire and Connecticut).\u00a0 Polls have shown repeatedly that approving marijuana for medical purposes run in favor of the concept, from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/8301-503544_162-57327004-503544\/poll-public-supports-medical-marijuana-but-not-full-pot-legalization\/\">51%<\/a> to <a href=\"http:\/\/norml.org\/library\/item\/favorable-medical-marijuana-polls\">80%<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>What is it that 4 out of 5 members of Congress from Iowa don\u2019t get?\u00a0 Do they actually approve of tax-payers\u2019 dollars going to the armed DEA raids that bust a middle-aged woman with multiple sclerosis?\u00a0 Do they still think that marijuana will do all the things that Harry Anslinger claimed?<\/p>\n<p><em>There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the U.S., and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos and entertainers. Their Satanic music, jazz and swing, results from marijuana usage. This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers and any others.\u00a0 <\/em>\u2013 Harry Anslinger, 1937 testimony before Congress.<\/p>\n<p>Rohrabacher\u2019s amendment was nothing more than telling the DEA that it should quit wasting time and money going after individuals and small businesses who are abiding by their respective state laws.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps the money would be better spent training the DEA about a certain document called the U.S. Constitution, particularly Amendment X:\u00a0 \u201cThe powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the U.S., and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos and entertainers.
